Alpha Surge Ingredients Explained

Alpha Surge is a daily gummy that combines an amino acid with several plant extracts. This guide goes through each ingredient on the label in plain language: what it is, how it has traditionally been used, what we know (and do not know) about it, and what to watch for. It is general information, not medical advice.

What is on the label

These are the amounts listed per gummy on the supplement facts panel. For serving size and directions, always follow the product label.

IngredientPer gummy
L-arginine HCl50 mg
Tongkat Ali extract200 mg
Maca root extract100 mg
Ashwagandha extract100 mg
Epimedium sagittatum extract100 mg
Beet root extract50 mg
Grape seed extract50 mg

Other ingredients listed include cane sugar, glucose syrup, water, pectin, citric acid, sodium citrate, natural flavor, natural coloring and starch. One gummy has 2 g of carbohydrate, including 1.5 g of sugars.

L-arginine HCl

L-arginine is an amino acid, one of the building blocks of protein. Your body makes some of it, and you also get it from foods such as meat, dairy, nuts and seeds. In the body it is used to produce nitric oxide, a molecule involved in how blood vessels relax.

Good to know: L-arginine supplements may lower blood pressure slightly and can interact with blood-pressure medicines, nitrates and blood thinners. People with a history of heart problems are usually advised to ask their doctor before using it.

Tongkat Ali (Eurycoma longifolia)

Tongkat Ali is a shrub native to Southeast Asia, where the root has long been used in traditional herbal practice. Today it is sold as a root extract in capsules, powders and gummies. Studies in people are generally small and short, so the evidence is limited and results are mixed.

Maca root (Lepidium meyenii)

Maca is a root vegetable grown in the high Andes of Peru, where it has been eaten for centuries. It is commonly sold as a powder or extract. Research in people is still limited, and a supplement extract is not the same thing as eating the whole root.

Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera)

Ashwagandha is an herb from Ayurvedic tradition, often described as an adaptogen. Some small trials have looked at stress and sleep, with varying results.

Good to know: Ashwagandha may interact with thyroid medicines, sedatives and drugs that suppress the immune system. Rare cases of liver problems have been reported, and it is generally not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding.

Epimedium sagittatum

Epimedium is a group of flowering plants used in traditional Chinese herbal medicine. Its leaves contain plant compounds such as icariin, which researchers have studied in the lab. Evidence from human studies is limited, so it is best seen as a traditional herbal ingredient rather than a proven one. If you take prescription medicine, check with your doctor first.

Beet root and grape seed extracts

Beet root is a natural source of dietary nitrates, and beets are a common food. Grape seed extract is rich in plant polyphenols. Both are added here in small amounts (50 mg each). Grape seed extract may have a mild blood-thinning effect, so mention it to your doctor if you take anticoagulants.

How to read these amounts

The amounts above are modest, and in several cases they are lower than the doses used in published studies. That is one reason it is realistic to expect a supplement like this to work, at most, as a small part of a healthy routine, not as a quick fix. Results vary from person to person, and nothing replaces regular exercise, good sleep and a balanced diet.

Talk to your doctor first if you are pregnant or nursing, under 18, have a medical condition (especially heart, thyroid, liver or blood-pressure conditions) or take prescription medication. Stop use and seek medical advice if you notice any adverse reaction.
